Thoughts On Career Coaching

Most people hit a stage in their career when they desire to take more control, be more proactive in creating and having the work life they desire...when their current situation is just not working for them anymore. There is nothing weird or strange about that as it's been said that the typical American will have 2-3 careers in their lifetime. For this reason and many more, many people consider engaging a coach.

In our work and personal life, it’s about getting desired outcomes. In our overall career experience, it’s about being successful, having fulfillment, maximizing our personal and earning potential.

Performance at Work

I have found in working with employees all over North America that there is great diversity in how companies work with performance management with their organization.  Surprisingly, I have found that many companies still function under an antiquated and ineffective model of once a year "appraisals.”

If you work for a company that does not have an effective system in place, you are leaving yourself in a vulnerable spot regarding how your performance is “perceived” and assessed.  It is highly recommend that in those cases active performance management is initiated.  It’s my belief you are either in a passive career and performance management mode or active.  Which one are you?

What’s recommend?... you begin your own career management plan and begin to track your own performance against what’s expected via your job description and appraisals. This may require engaging a coach to help you jump start either one of these initiatives.

For workplace performance there are some tools and strategies you can use to help effectively track how you’re doing and in which can be collaboratively used with your direct report.
